Being under the sun is really enjoyable for most of us – especially during summer. You can do a lot of outdoor activities during that time of year. Most of us tend to go outdoors to go swimming, hiking, camping, play ball, tend to our gardens, and spend time with our pets and much more. For that reason, many people experience problems with sunburn.
Sunburns are indeed irritating. Your skin turns into redden tenderized skin that is extremely painful. Aside from that, there are other complications sunburn can bring since it may cause permanent damage to the skin. Not only can sunburn cause you to look older, it can also cause the dreadful skin cancer.
For that reason, it is very important to keep yourself as well as your family protected against sunburn. Following the simple steps provided will go a long way toward keeping your skin healthy.
- 1. Use sunscreen. It is very important to use protection against the sun, and one of the most effective ways is to use a sun block lotion. Don’t forget to buy one and use each time before going outdoors – especially during summer months when the sun is harshest. Apply your sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before you go out into the sun and re-apply every two hours or depending on the product instruction. Also, check the SPFs (Sun Protection Factors) of the sun block lotion or cream whenever you are buying one. Remember that the higher the SPF, the better protection you can get.
- 2.Keep yourself covered. Aside from the different sunscreen products that you apply on your body, it is also recommended to keep yourself covered by using shade, sun visors, hats, umbrellas, or even clothes that can cover your whole body. But of course, you don’t need to exaggerate. Wear light clothing materials that are enough to cover your body.
- 3.Stay away from the sun! Of course this may be impossible since during summer times, there are a lot of activities to be done outdoors. However, you can pick the best time in which you can expose yourself to the sun. For that reason, avoid going out between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM since the sun is brightest and its effects are strongest during those times.
- 4.Worry about the clouds. A cloudy day doesn’t mean that you can’t get sunburn, thus don’t be fooled by the clouds. Remember that the sun rays can still penetrate the clouds and can still cause sunburn even though there are many clouds up in the sky. The point is that you need to keep yourself protected even at those times.
- 5.Moisturize! Don’t forget to moisturize your body. Moisturizers will be of great help to keep your body cool. In addition, if you have sunburn already, it can protect your skin from further damage and it can be helpful to speed up the healing process of your skin.
Remember that even though you have been wise to take the necessary precautions, there may still be times that you get sunburn; however, with these measures in place the sunburns will probably be mild and much less painful.
